The whitebait fishing season begins 15th August and runs until the 30th November. The whitebait season for the West Coast of the South Island is 1 September to 14 November inclusive. Are you planning to go whitebaiting this year? Then take note of the following information to make sure you observe the regulations.

The many uses of tree bark – both current and historical – will be explained during a tour at the Christchurch Botanical Gardens next Tuesday (19 August). Gardens Collection Curator Dean Pendrigh will lead the tour, focussing on the ecology, flavours, medicinal, and Maori uses of bark.
