The whitebait fishing season begins 15th August and runs until the 30th November. The whitebait season for the West Coast of the South Island is 1 September to 14 November inclusive. The New Zealand Association Of Event Professionals (NZAEP) has declared "Step Up Canterbury" hosted by Environment Canterbury and the Ministry for the Environment and managed by 360 Degree Events Ltd, to be New Zealand’s Best Emerging Event For 2008.

Bark – Beautiful and Beneficial

Christchurch City Council Media Release, 12 Aug 2008.
The many uses of tree bark – both current and historical – will be explained during a tour at the Christchurch Botanical Gardens next Tuesday (19 August). Gardens Collection Curator Dean Pendrigh will lead the tour, focussing on the ecology, flavours, medicinal, and Maori uses of bark.
