The whitebait fishing season begins 15th August and runs until the 30th November. The whitebait season for the West Coast of the South Island is 1 September to 14 November inclusive. Council adopts Biodiversity Strategy

Christchurch City Council Media Release, 04 Aug 2008.
The Christchurch City Council has adopted the Ōtautahi/Christchurch and Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū/Banks Peninsula Biodiversity Strategy, providing a local response to the Government’s New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy.
The strategy provides guidance on biodiversity issues relating to Council policy, plans and bylaws while respecting urban Christchurch’s Garden City character.
