Historic microscopes collection unveiled at opening of new Reception and Medical Education Unit

Christchurch Medical School, 08 Aug 2008.
New reception facilities at the University of Otago, Christchurch and a dedicated Medical Education Unit were officially opened on Thursday August 7 by the Dean, Professor Peter Joyce. At the same time the largest collection of historic microscopes in Australia and New Zealand will be publicly displayed for the first time.

Metro services benefit from fuel price rises, record numbers in Christchurch

Environment Canterbury Media Release, 14 Aug 2008.
Environment Canterbury (ECan) says that Metro bus use in Christchurch and Timaru has increased sharply in 2008. Both cities recorded an increase of 6 per cent growth during the year ending June 30, 2008.The total number of trips taken in Greater Christchurch* from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008 was 16,648,889. This is up almost 1 million or 6 per cent on the previous year and exceeds the Metro target of 5 per cent growth per annum.
