Ngaio Marsh in the 1940s Beca Heritage Week 2008 Celebrates 1940s-1970s

Christchurch is planning to celebrate one of its zingiest eras with the Beca Heritage Week from 17 - 27 October. The Beca Heritage Week 2008 theme – Retrospective: Christchurch Life, Architecture and Design 1940s-1970s - will take you through the 40 years following the end of World War II, from immediate post – war times, to the Rock and Roll of the 50s and the Rockers and Mods of the swinging Sixties through to the disco decade of the ‘70s.

Painting Commences on Hereford Street Bridge

Christchurch City Council Media Release, 01 Jul 2008.
A city landmark is getting a makeover which began Monday, 30 June, when workers started preparations to paint the Hereford Street Bridge. Originally built in 1937-1938, it is believed the grey concrete of the bridge was painted for the first and only time in the 1980s. A new colour scheme of cream, gold and International Orange has been chosen to compliment the bridge’s art deco style.
