The Christchurch City Council is now looking at more options for extending the city’s tramway after approving the laying of tracks and allowing for trams in City Mall.The Council, in a meeting last week, added trams in the Special Order that allows for vehicles in the City Mall but delayed a decision on some details of the proposed extension of the tram route itself, asking for more options on the course it should take heading south east from the High Street/Cashel Street intersection.

At this week’s Environment Canterbury council meeting, held in Timaru, councillors agreed to the budget for the draft annual plan for 2008/09. The general rate increase is lower than inflation at 2.2 per cent, close to the 2.1 per cent forecast in the Long Term Council Community Plan. The total budget for the 2008/09 ECan work plan is close to $112 million.

People who believe they are eligible for a reimbursement from the Christchurch City Council for certain parking fines issued in error can now contact the Council’s customer call centre to apply for a refund.Last week the Council voted to reimburse motorists who were incorrectly fined since February 2005 for a variety of offences where there were no signs advising them their actions would be illegal.The fines largely relate to parking on grass berms and verges.
