Christchurch City Libraries Media Release, 21 Nov 2008.
Judges have unanimously selected a winner of the Libraries Heritage Week photo competition, saying the image “encapsulated the spirit of the 1950s and portrayed a moment in social history.” The photo, entitled “Majestic Dance Band,” was also awarded the 1950s decade section of the competition, winning its submitter, Merle Conaghan, a Sony digital camera, Christchurch Central Library’s Aotearoa New Zealand Centre Team Leader Annette Williams says.

The New Zealand Historical Places Trust (NZHPT) is working on a proposal to enter the Lyttelton Historic Area in Canterbury on its National Register of Historic Places.An information meeting promoted by NZHPT was held on 29 October in Lyttelton, with a generous turnout from the local community. Prior to the meeting letters were delivered to Lyttelton households outlining the registration process.

A New Zealand Historic Places Trust (NZHPT) draft document on how to deal with koiwi tangata/human remains is out for consultation.The Koiwi Tangata/Human Remains Guidelines has been prepared for use by NZHPT staff, heritage administrators and consultants, archaeologists, the police, territorial local authorities, government departments, project managers, property owners, and the general public. It is aimed at people that may be involved in the discovery, excavation, exhumation, storage, re-interment or repatriation of koiwi tangata/human remains.
