2010 Cycle Guide Hits Stands

Christchurch City Council Media Release, 08 Feb 2010.
Just in time for Bike Wise Month, the Christchurch City Council has launched the new and improved 2010 Christchurch City Cycle Guide.Improvements include 16 additional cycle routes (taking the total to 28), coloured to distinguish on-road cycle routes from off-road and quieter streets, information on new cycle lanes and networks and routes for buses with bike racks.

Canterbury weather, rainfall more of the same

Continued unsettled weather, with average to dry conditions, has meant that groundwater levels are continue to drop in the region, say Environment Canterbury water scientists.Rainfall throughout much of Canterbury has been generally below average, characteristic of the continued El Niño weather pattern.

Historic reserve designation for Takapuneke

Christchurch City Council Media Release, 04 Feb 2010.
An exhibition at the Akaroa Museum and a blessing at the reserve on 5 February will commemorate the establishment of the Takapūneke Historic Reserve in Akaroa.Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker, who announced the Council’s intention to change the designation of Takapūneke to reserve land last Waitangi Day, will speak at the blessing ceremony. He will be joined by George Tikao, Chairman of Ōnuku Rūnanga.
