Environment Canterbury Media Release, 02 Feb 2010.
The Commissioners appointed by Selwyn District Council and Environment Canterbury to the Central Plains Water consent applications have issued the 13th and 14th Minutes relating to the application to take water from the Waimakariri River and its relationship to Proposed Plan Change 1 to the Waimakariri River Plan.

The Government purchased the 78,196 ha St James Station (St James) as public conservation land on 8 October 2008.Located on three mountain ranges and containing the headwaters of the Waiau and Clarence rivers, the St James Conservation Area encompasses the St James Walkway. The western side is 190 km from Christchurch - off Lewis Pass Road (SH 7) and the eastern side is accessed 13 km north from Hanmer Springs, off Tophouse road. An operational plan for the area is available for public information.

Protecting the city and peninsula’s indigenous biodiversity is a priority of the Christchurch City Council which is why it purchased the 903-hectare Te Oka Farm in 2009.Mayor Bob Parker said the decision to purchase the coastal headland property adjoining Te Oka Bay and Tumbledown Bay was made as part of the Council’s Long Term Council Community Plan 2009-19 and was funded from the Council’s capital programme budget.
