Canterbury University works with FMR on frost machines

FMR Group, 19 Dec 2008.
Marlborough company FMR Group has been working with the University of Canterbury Mechanical Engineering Department Acoustics Research Group for the last 18 months to reduce the noise level of the wind machines and have achieved a more than 10 decibel reduction.The result is the Defender wind machine which will be in production from February 2009.

Warm dry summer could force further water restrictions

Christchurch City Council Media Release, 17 Dec 2008.
Christchurch and Banks Peninsula residents are being asked to conserve water now, with warm temperatures, potentially low rainfall and reduced stream flows predicted for coastal Canterbury this summer.The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research’s (NIWA) seasonal climate outlook for December 2008 to February 2009 forecasts above average temperatures, normal or below normal rainfall, and below normal soil moisture levels and stream flows. Stronger than usual north-westerly winds are also predicted.
